Whipped Hot Cross Butter

Ok let’s talk hot cross buns- they have all the good things, citrus and spice, but I can’t put my finger on why I just don’t enjoy them as much as I should. Maybe it’s the bread to spice ratio or perhaps I am just scarred from those dry grocery store ones. At some point I should try my hand at making my own and find out for myself. Until then I have a recipe for whipped hot cross butter. It is glorious spread on some warm brioche and sets off this scent reminiscent of raisin toast in the morning.

If you’re not a fan of hot cross buns yourself, this one is for you. You are in charge of your spice to bread ratio. Tone down or up the ante on the spice and citrus if you like; make it your own. But I personally like it lightly sweet, full of cinnamon and orange spread on some warm toasted brioche. Pop it in a jar and it makes for the perfect gift!
